MS Word Section Headers

This post contains one example of creating a section header in a Microsoft Word document. This “style” might be appropriate for a brochure or marketing document, but it is not a Word style.

The section’s title below is formatted as bold, italic, centered text with a border and shading. There is a half point border above and below the text. The shading is filled with a custom color which is RGB code 201, 251, 255, which is #C9FBFF in hex. Below is a screenshot of Word.

Here’s how you get to the place where you can create that section header styling. Once you open it you will see three tabs in the Borders and Shading dialog box that popped up: Borders, Page Border and Shading.

Choose your line style and click on the locations you would like to place the border lines by using the diagram on the right. Click the Shading tab and choose Fill drop-down and choose a color. You can choose an exact color (RGB or hex) by selecting more colors at the bottom.
