A RACI matrix defines project roles and responsibilities, providing a comprehensive chart of who is responsible, accountable, consulted, and informed each step of the way. Organizations use this tool to maintain structure within their project teams. RACI matrixes help all team members in keeping track of individual responsibilities within data team projects.
RACI Chart
RACI is an acronym for Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, and Informed. A RACI is a type of responsibility matrix or responsibility assignment matrix that assists in mitigating role confusion. A RACI matrix (RACI model, RACI diagram, or simply just RACI) is a standard document and best practice used to map out and document the key activities and deliverables for the project and the individuals or groups that have responsibility for their completion, signoff, and awareness. Below is an example. Fill in the intersection of the activities and the roles with either R, A, C or I. There can only be one R. One person may fill more than one role. For example, an executive could also be a subject matter expert. Responsible: This role has been assigned the task directly. Accountable: This role is the owner of the work. They will need to approve the job when the task is complete. Consulted: This role is expected to give input during the process and are subject matter experts (SMEs). Consulted: This role is expected to give input during the process; kept in the loop.
