VLC Media Player


VLC is a free and open source media player and streamer developed by the volunteers of the VideoLAN community. It can read almost all media files, CDs, DVDs, network streams, capture cards and other media formats. It’s very good at being able to play many different types of media.

The VLC website says: “VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVDs, Audio CDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols.”

Wikipedia says the following about VLC Media Player: “VLC media player (commonly known as VLC) is a free and open-source, portable and cross-platform media player and streaming media server written by the VideoLAN project. VLC is available for desktop operating systems and mobile platforms, such as Windows 10 Mobile, Windows Phone, Android, Tizen, iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. VLC is also available on App stores such as Apple’s App Store, Google Play store and Microsoft Windows Windows Store.”

Internet Radio

Go to the playlist view by using the shortcut Ctrl+L. You can press Ctrl+L to go back if you wish. While in the playlist view, at the bottom left, select Icecast Radio Directory. You can search for the type of music you want. ‘Classic Rock” brings up dozens of choices. Double-click on any of the choices and it will begin playing. Notice that the artist and song title is listed at the top of the VLC window. VLC Media Player can also convert files between file formats.
