Microsoft 365 vs Google Workspace

Note that Google Workspace used to be called G Suite and before that it was called Google Apps. Also note that Microsoft 365 used to be called Office 365. Which is better? Could your company consider using both? What about using a free office package like LibreOffice.

Here is a web page from Style Factory called Microsoft 365 vs Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) — Which is Best?

The above article says that both Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace are suites of productivity tools that let you perform common business tasks ‘in the cloud,’ using a web browser. These include: sending emails, managing calendars, creating documents, spreadsheets and presentations, video conferencing, file management, and team collaboration. Microsoft 365 also provides a comprehensive range of desktop applications — programs that you install on your computer, rather than using online.

Microsoft 365 is Better because…

  1. Cloud-based AND desktop app meaning you can work offline more easily
  2. 365 is better for editing complex documents
  3. While Workspace lets you create and edit Microsoft documents, you don’t get all of the advanced features and you might have formatting problems.
  4. 365 apps are generally more feature rich that the Workspace ones.
  5. Microsoft video conferencing is more generous when it comes to participant numbers
  6. The 365 trial is one-month whereas the Workspace trial is just 14 days.

Google Workspace is Better because…

  1. Create Workspace AND Microsoft documents
  2. Workspace is better for collaboration since it was built with collaboration in mind.
  3. Easier to deploy, maintain, and support because it browser-based.
  4. Encourages cloud-based working and encourages saving files online.
