Windows 10 Virtual Machine

This entry is part 2 of 4 in the series VirtualBox

In this post I will create a Windows 10 virtual machine in VirtualBox. The next step is to download and install a version of Windows 10 into that newly created virtual machine.

Before installing any virtual machines, you might find it easier to set the location preference. I have two hard drives in my Windows laptop so I want to store my VMs on the D drive in the folder VirtualMachines. I have the operating system (and a few other files) on the C drive and my data on the D drive. Open the Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager and flick on the File menu, then Preferences. Below is a screenshot of how I set my folder. Click the thumbnail below to enlarge it. In your VM Manager click on the down arrow in the Default Machine Folder and click Other… to point to a folder on your computer.

To create a Windows 10 virtual machine, click the New icon at the top or from the menu click Machine, New. The following interface appears. Type in Windows 10.

Click Next. You could leave the default at 2048MB of RAM and just click Next. Go ahead and create a virtual hard disk now by accepting the default and click Create. Leave the hard disk file type as the default at VDI. Accept the default of dynamically allocated. The next step is to specify the file location and size.

Here is what it looks like, after I added a description in the settings.
