Once you have joined a Google Meet session, there are a few basic controls that help you communicate clearly and manage the meeting.
Microphone (Mute and Unmute)
Your microphone can be turned on or off at any time.
- Click the microphone icon to mute or unmute yourself
- Mute your microphone when you are not speaking to reduce background noise
Camera (On and Off)
You can choose whether others see you on video.
- Click the camera icon to turn your video on or off
- If your camera is off, others will only hear your voice
Chat During a Meeting
Google Meet includes a built-in chat feature for sending messages.
- Click the chat icon (speech bubble)
- Type your message and press Enter
- Useful for sharing links or asking questions without interrupting
Note: Chat messages may not be saved after the meeting ends.
Screen Sharing
You can share your screen to show documents, websites, or presentations.
- Click Present now
- Choose what to share:
- Your entire screen
- A specific window
- A browser tab
- Select your screen and click Share
To stop sharing, click Stop sharing.
Leaving the Meeting
When you are finished:
- Click the red phone icon to leave the meeting
