eCommerce with WordPress WooCommerce and Shopkeeper

There is a very good tutorial video on YouTube that walks you through the process of setting up a WordPress site with eCommerce functionality provided by the WooCommerce plugin and the Shopkeeper theme. The video is called How to Create an E-commerce Website with WordPress ONLINE STORE! – 2016. Go to the demo site to interact with the end-result and see how it works. There is also a web page that shows all of the steps in the video over at nyctechclub.com.

Pre-requisites

Do you have a business that would like to have an ecommerce website? There are several pre-requisites you need to have before you actually start building this site. Obviously you need a viable business. Your products can be physical, ship-able products, but they don’t have to be. They could be downloadable products such as music or e-books. You will need to get a hosting company and a domain name. After that you will need to install WordPress, which isn’t difficult and is free. This video uses a premium WordPress theme called Shopkeeper. It is a one-time cost of $59. The cost of the hosting for a year varies but will start at about $100 for a year, plus a small cost for the domain name for a year. You can find these services for cheaper and you don’t have to use the theme the video suggests. You could use a free theme. You won’t get the same results however as shown in the video. And finally, you need to gather your website content. This includes the text and the pictures, and perhaps videos. You will need company descriptions and marketing materials as well as product names and descriptions. It goes without saying that you will also need an email address and be somewhat computer literate.

I’m not recommending WooCommerce and the Shopkeeper theme as I have never used these, however they both are very popular and the demo site looks good.
