If you need to be able to watch your favorite YouTube videos offline (when you are connected to the Internet), then you can download those chosen videos to your device. What’s the best way to do this? If you go to the WikiHow website you can find an article called How to Download YouTube Videos.
The fourth one on that list in that article has been discontinued.
The most reliable way to download YouTube videos is to subscribe to YouTube Premium. In Canada it will cost about CA$12.99 per month.
One way that has worked for me is the VLC media player method, which is method 2 in the video mentioned above. Essentially you need to open the YouTube URL as a video stream in VLC. First, go to YouTube in your browser and find a video you wish to download. Click Media, then click Open Network Stream… In Windows (it is different on Mac) click Play. In Windows, Click Tools, then click Codec Information of the video Copy the “Location” field from the bottom of the window. Paste that into the URL on a new tab in your browser and press Enter. Use Save video as to save the file to a location on your computer. You may need to change the file name to ensure that .mp4 at the end of the file name to make the file download as an MP4 video file. If you get a message that it cannot change the name because it is open in your browser, it may be that the video is still downloading. Please be patient.
