Data Guide in Tableau provides helpful information about dashboards and insights about the data behind them. It allows dashboard creators to provide explanatory context for end users directly within the dashboard. You can add descriptions, links to resources, and even surface insights powered by Explain Data to help users find outliers and understand explanations for specific data points1. If you’re a dashboard author, you can customize Data Guide by adding descriptions and relevant links. As a dashboard user, you can explore the dashboard-level details, read descriptions, and learn more about the underlying data used in each visualization.
By default the Data Guide pane is not visible, however you can click it’s icon to open it. The icon is in the upper right corner beside Show Me.
You can add your own description of the visualization. If you save it as a packaged workbook will the Data Guide’s information be available to users of Tableau Reader?
