Self Publishing with PublishDrive

This entry is part 3 of 4 in the series Self Publishing

Do you have an eBook or other format you’ve written that you want to make some money with? Have you considered self-publishing?

PublishDrive

What is PublishDrive? PublishDrive is a self-publishing platform for authors and indie publishers. They are an aggregate publishing platform. They help authors sell globally with easy-to-use tools and a support team. Authors get access to 400 stores and 240,000 digital libraries all over, including the US, China, Europe and India.

PublishDrive introduced a new model in September 2019. There is a YouTube video called Self Publishing An eBook Through PublishDrive | What You NEED to Know FIRST by Dale that describes the new model.

Is PublishDrive for you? I’m not sure, as I would need to have a look at some of the other platforms and do a comparison. PublishDrive is an aggregate publishing platform. This means that you can upload your eBook (electronic work) to them and they go ahead and distribute it to several other platforms. These platforms include hundreds of online retailers and thousands of libraries and institutions. This includes Amazon, Apple Books, Kobo, Barns & Noble, Scribd, Overdrive, 24Symbols, Bibliotheca and others. Typically these aggregate publishers do the distribution for you and take about 10% of your revenue that was left over from each of the platforms. This is how PublishDrive used to work. If a platform gives you 70% of the sale price, and the sales price is $5, you get $3.50 less the 10% the aggregate would take, which works out to $3.15. You get to keep $3.15 of your total revenue $5.00. Margin is profit over sales. In this case your margin is 63%.

Now there is no more revenue share with PublishDrive. No more 10% in the above example. How does PublishDrive make money then? They have a tier-based subscription model. If you are new to PublishDrive you can have one title uploaded for free. The first one is free. You get what each of the other platforms offer, without having PublishDrive take their cut! This is the Try Out model. If you have between 2 and 5 titles you are in the Standard Model, where you pay $19.99 per month. With this you get access into China and Google Play. You don’t have that in the Tryout Model. Bother models are 100% royalty free. With the Standard Model you get special promotions.

Advertising and Promotion

After you have employed PublishDrive to promote your work or works, you will benefit by continuing to promote and advertise the title or titles. This is not a set and forget situation. Continue promoting your work.
