Sometimes you will get paid when you provide the goods or services. You get paid right away. Suppose you have a service company and you take videos for clients. Instead of entering an invoice and then immediately receiving a payment against that invoice, you can create a sales receipt instead.
I believe in recording and tracking as much data and information as reasonably possible in this case and I would want to know the quantity of hours we spent on this project, the hourly rate and the total amount charged to the client. We would also want to know the exact type of service or product we delivered to the client. To record all of this in QuickBooks, I would use the Sales Receipt. In QuickBooks you would click + New and then Sales receipt under the Customers column of links. Here is an example of what the screen looks like. I’ve added the red arrows to draw your attention.
