Parameters for Sales of Sub-categories


Here is another example of using parameters and calculated fields in Tableau. The dataset is the Superstore dataset included with Tableau. Below is the end-result. It’s fairly easy to do. We create a parameter called Sales Parameter. It has a name and properties. The properties include a data type, data format, starting value and allowable values. We need to show the parameter. Next we create a calculated field that uses the parameter we just created. It’s called Sales >= Parameter. The edit window is shown in the screenshot below at the bottom left. It’s then is dragged to the Color mark.

Creating a new column (field) in the world of machine learning is called feature engineering.

The user can change the 150,000 value in the top right corner and the chart will change dynamically.
