The Google Business Intelligence Professional Certificate was just recently released at Coursera.
It is divided up into three courses.
- Foundations of Business Intelligence
- The Path to Insights: Data Models and Pipelines
- Decisions, Decisions: Dashboards and Reports
Luke Barouse reviewed this course and the new Google Advanced Data Analytics courses on the YouTube video called Google’s BI vs. Advanced Data Analytics Certificates.
What does Luke think of the BI Certificate? He says the first course is heavy on the videos and lectures, they give you insight and a are a bit boring. In the second course there are a lot of great insights on best practices for building data pipelines. He says the project is comprehensive enough. The practical exercises are disappointing. For the third course, there is not enough parctical exercises using the tools you need to know. Luke recommends this course for beginners. However, if you are mainly interested in building up your skills, he recommends a different course at Coursera. For SQL, take Learn SQL Basics for Data Science by UDDavis. For Tableau, take Data Visualization with Tableau. by UCDavis. Both of these courses are beginner level. Certificates alone are not enough to get a job. Take the certificate if you are interested, but to get a job you will need a portfolio of data projects.
