Create a Virtual Machine

Create a Windows Server 2016 virtual machine. You can do this by going to the File menu and clicking New Virtual Machine. A wizard opens. This post shows all of the screens you will be seeing in this example. After we go through this wizard we will need to actually install the OS into this VM by first downloading a trial version of Windows Server 2016 (or an actual version) and mounting the ISO file to the virtual CD ROM.

When you run the wizard you first see something like the following.

Name the VM. You can change the name later. I changed my preferences so that it will be easier later when I create more VMs. I created a folder in my D drive to store all of the VM files that VMware Workstation creates to hold my VMs.
