There are a lot of settings on your iPad that you probably don’t know about. Several of these settings are probably using a fair bit of you battery life and draining it too fast. Also you may want to be more private with your device and also receive fewer advertisements and popups.

Here is a 13-minute YouTube video by Payette Forward called 20 iPad Settings You Need To TURN OFF Now [2023]. Here is the list of the 20 settings from the video.
- cancel subscriptions – Settings app, tap your name, subscriptions, tap on a subscriptions and cenel anything you don’t want
- personalized recommendations – tap Media and Purchases, view account, turn off personalized recommendations
- personalized ads – Settings, tap Privacy and Security tab, Apple advertising, turn off personalized ads,
- analytics and improvements – Settings, Privacy and Security, analytics and improvements, turn off all of this (about 5 of them)
- app tracking – privacy and security, tracking, turn off the one at the top and click ask apps to stop tracking,
- location services – privacy and security, location services, look for an app that uses location Always, clcik while using the app, also turn off precise location for all apps unless its a maps app
- system services – location services, system services, turn off the following, Apple pay, compass calibration, device management, homekit, location-based alerts, location-based suggestions, networking & wireless, setting time zone, system customization
- significant locations – Significant locations turn off (places you have been)
- product improvement – system services, turn off iPad analytics, routing & traffic, improve maps,
- background app refresh – Settings, general, background app refresh, go through them all and turn off as you see fit
- app downloads – If you have an Apple phone… Settings, App Store, turn off App downloads,
- in-app content – turn on the switch next to in app content
- in-app ratings and reviews – turn off in-app ratings and reviews
- preload top hit – Settings, Safari, turn off pre-load top hit,
- close tabs (after 1 month) –
- privacy preserving ad measurement – Safari, turn off Privacy Preserving Ad Management,
- push mail – Settings, Mail, Accounts, Fetch New Data, turn off Push, then select every 30 minutes
- undo send (30 seconds) – Settings, Mail, Undo Send Delay, change the delay to 30 seconds or preferred
- blocked sender options – Settings, Mail, block sender options, move to trash (blocked senders’ mail goes right to trash)
- incessant notifications – Settings, Notifications, go app by app. For example, Facebook, turn off all if you desire,
- Screen Sharing – under Notifications, turn off so while you are sharing, no notifications will appear.

Your iPhone messages are not showing up on your iPad! Go to your iPhone, Settings, Messages, Text Message Forwarding, turn on. You can make your text and app icons smaller to create more screen space, if you wish. On the iPad, go to Settings, Display & Brightness, Display Zoom, More Space. To do the opposite (larger icons), go to Settings, Home Screen and App Library, Use large app icons. The “Dock” refers to the bottom row of icons. You can re-size your on-screen keyboard. You can “pinch” it with two fingers to shrink it and then even move it around. In Multitasking and Gestures there is a Swipe Finger from Corner setting you can turn on. Swiping from the bottom left takes a screenshot; from the bottom right open a Note.
Have the iPad read text to you. Settings, Accessibility, Spoken Content, Speak Selection. Make a selection of text and use the menu above.
Settings, Display & Brightness, Auto Lock, and set this to either 2 minutes or 5 minutes. This is how long it waits before it turns off the screen to save battery power. You don’t want it set to Never.
Settings, Accessibility, Guided Access. Turn the feature on. Go to the app that you want to restrict. Tap the top button three times. Click Options in the lower left. Now you can set the controls and restrictions. This could be great for children. Click Start after you have chosen which to allow. Enter a passcode if prompted.
