What is the data ecosystem? A data ecosystem is a group of elements that interact to produce, manage, store, organize, analyze, and share data. There are four main players in this interconnected system. The data ecosystem fits under the data science umbrella.
- Data Devices – cell phones, GPS, Internet games, ATM, RFID, Computer, IoT, cable box, medical imaging, video surveillance, loyalty cards
- Data Collectors – cable TV provider, ISP, retail stores, Netflix, Google, Microsoft, Banks, government
- Data Aggregators – they make sense of the data collected, compile data from governments, retail, wholesale, websites
- Data Users and Buyers – they benefit from the data collected, banks, retail, credit bureaus, media political parties, government, emergency departments
The general definition of an ecosystem is a complex network or interconnected system. In ecology an ecosystem is a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment.
