You can download these pictures yourself and use them as they are in the Creative Commons. The above icons are all PNG format. In Windows just right-click the icon and choose Save Image As… to save it to your computer for later use. Each icon is designed on a 24×24 grid with an emphasis on simplicity, consistency and readability.

Do you need black and white icons. The website feathericons.com has those. The files here are SVG files.

Also check out The Noun Project. Here they have PNG files that are a bit larger than the other two mentioned above. These icons do not appear to be open source and are therefore subject to copyright laws. I have not investigated this site so use at your own risk.

Another place to look is over at Font Awesome.

Make Your Own – Icon Editor

If you are looking to create your own icons or edit icons, you might try Greenfish Icon Editor Pro. You can download it at CNet. It’s a icon creator or maker.

Although I Haven’t used them yet, Flaticon might be e good place to get your icons from.

Make Your Own – InkScape and @icon sushi

Over at C# Helper there is an article that describes how you can make your own icons. The tools he used to create this example’s icon file are Inkscape and @icon sushi. Inkscape is a drawing tool and @icon sushi is an icon converter that can turn images into icon files.
